| #189 | Shimo reconnects VPN after switching SSID | VPN-service | Shimo 3.0 | defect | 03/17/08 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
There is an unexpected behaviour with Shimo 1.0.6: If you have a profile set to auto-connect based on SSID (eg. at work) and send your laptop to sleep while vpn still active, walk home and wake the system up, shimo will reconnect to the vpn although the network SSID has changed. It would be nice if shimo would not reconnect if it detects a change in the SSID upon wakeup from sleep, if the connection was started by SSID-Detection. |

After using the auto update mechanism to upgrade from 2.02 to 2.03, Shimo beach balls every time it tries to connect to my VPN. The only way to fix the issue is to kill it via the cli. Attached is the system log. |

| #288 | custom routes not removed on shutdown | OpenVPN | Need more Info | defect | 06/21/08 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Sometimes Shimo takes a very long time to shut down a tunnel (I don't know why). After 60 seconds, I quit Shimo. However all custom routes (and the tun0 interface) were left behind. This is very annoying of course and then requires either a reboot or use of ifconfig and 'route delete' |

| #176 | Cisco Client Front End for iPhones | VPN-service | Far far away... | task | 02/01/08 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Already version 1 of Shimo is a perfect client for Mac OSX. Congratulations for this great achievement. What the Mac community desperately needs in the next step is Shimo for iPhone ("Shiphone?") a Cisco Client for (jailbreaked) iPhones. I am sure that Apple will officially open the phone for third party apps soon, because this increases the benefit of the iPhone for many users considerably. The reason for proposing such a project is that: - iphone runs Unix and the file structure is almaost like on the Mac, - iphone file structure is easily accessible vie SFTP .... (at least on jailbreaked phones), - the Cisco files are installed on the Unix level and - vpnclient can be even run without any front end from the terminal. (Maybe because of my missing deeper insider knowledge,) I see the opportunity to transfer a Cisco Client installation without its bulky front end from a Mac to the iPhone with minimum or no modifications and to start and stop it via a command line tool. If this really works, programming a lean and simple front end should not be such a big deal. Any interest in such a developent? I would be happy to donate. |

I happily use Shimo over launching the Cisco VPN client. My organization does not require a domain to be entered, however everytime I use Shimo I enter my authentication info and it always comes up with the error that I require domain info. I always hit ignore and everything works fine. Is it possible to make this a preference? |

| #312 | network dead after disconnecting Cisco VPN connection | Cisco VPN | Need more Info | defect | 07/17/08 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
0. (wireless) network is up and running. 1. Use Shimo to connect to company intranet (Cisco VPN) 2. ... everything is fine ... 3. Use Shimo to disconnect from company intranet => network connection is dead. No name resolution, nothing, ... Workarounds, that might give you a hint what the actual bug is: a) reboot the machine => not really an option for me. b) do some voodoo: ;-) 1. disconnect using Shimo 2. turn Airport off 3. try to connect again using Shimo (although you know this can not work) 4. wait until network diagnostic dialog pops up (connection timeout) => cancel 5. turn Airport on again => network connection is up and running again I have this problem since Shimo 2.0. It still exists in 2.0.4.2. |

| #350 | Cannot us up/down scripts with OpenVPN | AnyConnect | Need more Info | defect | 09/13/08 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I have an OpenVPN which I've confirmed works by running openvpn from the command-line. It does the following on "up", which I have in a script called "tap-dhcp": /usr/bin/sudo /usr/sbin/ipconfig set $1 DHCP And this on "down", in a script called "tap-bootp": /usr/bin/sudo /usr/sbin/ipconfig set $1 BOOTP As I say, this config works just fine on the command-line. However, when I try to open the connection with Shimo I get this helpful dialog: Error Message General Error script failed: could not execute external program Note: absolutely no indication of what is failing or what Shimo was trying to do. | #353 | Unplanned network reconfiguration led to permanent vpnc failure | VPNC | Need more Info | defect | 10/01/08 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I was in my hotel room, happily connected to work via vpnc thanks to Shimo. While I was working, my IP address expired and the hotel disconnected my computer from the network. After I disconnected Shimo, re-established my network connection, and tried to reconnect with Shimo, I kept running into two different problems: 1) Shimo would get stuck in the Securing phase. 2) Shimo would report "Driver Failure. Please check your network configuration and installed device drivers." I continue to be unable to reconnect to my work VPN. I tried manually connecting through the Terminal, and got this: irbt-2147:~ chef$ sudo /Applications/Shimo.app/Contents/MacOS/vpnc ~/Library/Application\ Support/Shimo/Configs/irobot-vpn-hq.vpnc AUTH: Enter IPSec secret for [REDACTED]@hq-vpn.irobot.com: AUTH: Enter password for jczerniak@hq-vpn.irobot.com: sh: /etc/vpnc/vpnc-script: No such file or directory sh: /etc/vpnc/vpnc-script: No such file or directory sh: /etc/vpnc/vpnc-script: No such file or directory ERROR: socket(PF_INET, SOCK_RAW, IPPROTO_ESP): Protocol wrong type for socket How do I resolve the "driver error" to get vpnc working again? |

Your app is a very nice and affordable piece of work, and i would be more than happy to make some profiles for Lancom devices. |

|
I tried to install AnyConnect 2.2.0140 because I want to connect via AnyConnect to some Cisco VPN. Unfortunately, when I install AnyConnect, the vpn.pkg installer will fail; the script "postflight" aborts abnormally every time. This is its output: 14:55:47 admin@foo:/Volumes/vpn-2.2.0140/vpn.pkg/Contents/Resources$ sudo ./postflight Password: Starting Cisco TUN kernel extension... kextload: kmod_control/start failed for com.cisco.cscotun; destroying kmod kextload: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/tun.kext link/load failed for extension /System/Library/Extensions/tun.kext (run kextload with -t for diagnostic output) I think the reason is that Shimo already installed this extension (or, an extension with the same name). If I uninstall Shimo completely (http://www.shimoapp.com/faq.html), I can install and use AnyConnect smoothly afterward. However, then Shimo will fail to establish a connection to any VPN (after reinstalling it, of course). After removing AnyConnect and Shimo, restarting, and installing Shimo, Shimo will work again. |

| #378 | Shimo hangs when switching location upon SSH connection | SSH | Need more Info | defect | 11/16/08 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
I use SSH connections with SOCKS. For this purpose I set up a new location in the network preferences, where I tell my Mac to use the SOCKS proxy. As long as I switch the location manually everything is fine. If Shimo switches the location automatically it does not respond anymore, nevertheless the connection works. This happens only with SSH connections. If Shimo switches my location upon Cisco or OpenVPN connect, there is no problem. |

| #388 | Cisco AnyConnect SSL-VPN does not work if there is already a Cisco VPN Connection established | AnyConnect | Need more Info | defect | 12/04/08 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
In Switzerland all public schools are behind a cisco firewall. Behind this firewall we have setup each school with a separate cisco firewall and have activated SSL-VPN on this firewalls. Before I had Shimo installed I was able to connect to the main firewall over normal Cisco-VPN with the Cisco VPN Client and then to startup the AnyConnect Client and create a SSL-VPN-Tunnel inside the established Cisco-VPN-Tunnel. After installing Shimo I now always get an "VPN Service not available" error. On a separate computer where Shimo is not installed I can still connect to the internal firewall over SSL-VPN without any problems. |

When the prompt for subscriber password appears, enter the correct password 4. When the prompt for the user password appears, press cancel. 5. from the Shimo menu icon, re-connect with the 'Connect' menu entry EXPECTED RESULT: Shimo should connect to the created profile ACTUAL RESULT: An error message appears 'A connection is already in the process of being established'. To re-connect, the user has to quit and re-start Shimo. |

Suggestion, add a cipher menu choice.
Some OpenVPN server endpoints offer AES hardware crypto. So may I suggest...
In the OpenVPN, Preferences: Profiles, Advanced pane, add Cipher: [ menu ] The menu is: Default Cipher BF-CBC AES-128-CBC AES-192-CBC AES-256-CBC
All except "Default Cipher" (the default) adds the "cipher ..." command to the config file.

On the "Notifications" tab there seems to be no way to "Preview" the sound. It's also not possible to revert the notifications back to default or to the last saved preference. Because I don't know what the connection established sound sounded like in the first place, the user would have to guess at one. It would be good if you could preview each action to see what they look/sound like, as well as providing the option to revert to defaults/last saved. It may be best to have an OK button that applies the current choice, a cancel which reverts to last OK'd (saved) and a Defaults to set the application defaults. |

| #400 | VPNC connections don't always require a username and password but Shimo requires them | Other | Far far away... | enhancement | 12/30/08 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
When using the Windows Cisco VPN client, I can connect to a Cisco gateway by just using a group username and group password. It would be good in the profile setup of Shimo if you could create a VPNC entry without having to enter the normal username and password details. Authentication works fine with any random username and an empty password (although Shimo does prompt whether you would like to ignore the fact that an empty password is being used). If the user clicks on 'Do no warn me again', it's not clear if that is just for this profile (if so there should be a config option on the profile pane to say 'allow empty password') or if it will affect all future choices (which wouldn't be good). |

| #355 | Hide profiles in short-cut menu | preferences | Far far away... | enhancement | 10/07/08 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I do some kind of bad thing with Shimo. The possibility to let Shime choose a system config set depending on which networks are around me is great! I use it to assign different sets to different WLans. ('wlan1' -> Home, 'wlan2' -> Work, 'wlan3' -> Girlfriend's home) Therefore I created SSH Profiles connecting to 127.0.0.1 w/ no username/password. Everything works really well, but it's annoying to have 12 options when clicking the neat Shime icon next to my clock. I'd love an option "[ ] Hide Profile in Short-Cut list" or something like that. My workaround is to name all these profiles like "xWlan-Home", what really sucks! :) |

Currently it seems the easiest way to find out the version number of the version of Shimo running is to go to the Preferences pane and hit 'Check now' at which point a dialog appears showing the version number. It would be useful to have such a dialog from an 'About' menu entry. |
